Dental Gems FAQ Teeth Whitening FAQ
What are tooth gems?
Tooth gems are small decorative crystals or jewels that are professionally bonded to the surface of a tooth using dental-grade adhesive. They are purely cosmetic, non-invasive, and do not damage tooth enamel when applied correctly.
What type of gems do you use?
At Starlit Smiles, we use premium lead-free SWAROVSKI crystals or white or yellow gold known for quality, safety, and sparkle.
How much do dental gems cost?
Dental gems start from $100.00. This price includes your consultation and professional application of one gem. Additional gems start at $30.00. Yellow and white gold items start from $200.00 for 1 item and extra items start at $70.00. Some caps can cost upwards of $500.00, as they are solid 18kt gold. You are advised to choose wisely.
What is included in the consultation?
Your consultation includes: - Discussion of gem size, colour, and placement - A quick oral check to ensure the tooth is suitable
No additional dental treatment is performed. If any visible decay or urgent dental issues are identified, you will be informed and referred to a dentist if needed.
How long does the appointment take?
Appointments typically take 20–45 minutes. The process is similar to bonding clear aligner attachments.
Is the procedure painful?
No. The procedure is completely pain-free, non-invasive, and does not involve drilling or injections.
How are tooth gems applied?
The tooth is cleaned and gently prepared using a mild resin solution. A dental-grade adhesive (commonly used for orthodontic braces) is applied, and the gem is placed and cured using a blue UV light.
Will a tooth gem damage my tooth?
No, when applied by a trained professional, tooth gems do not damage enamel. They are temporary and fully removable.
How long do tooth gems last?
With proper care, tooth gems typically last 6–12 months. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, diet, lifestyle habits, and natural saliva chemistry.
Can tooth gems be removed?
Yes. Tooth gems can be safely removed or replaced by a dental professional at any time. The gem is gently removed, and any remaining adhesive is polished away without damaging the tooth.
Do you offer a warranty on dental gems?
Due to factors beyond control—such as dental hygiene, eating habits, lifestyle, saliva chemistry, and regular dental care—no warranty is offered on dental gems.
High-quality materials, thorough consultations, and clear aftercare guidance are provided to help you maintain your gem’s sparkle and set realistic expectations.
What aftercare is required?
Aftercare instructions include: - Avoid abrasive toothpaste - Avoid hard or sticky foods for the first 48 hours - Continue normal brushing and flossing with extra care around the gem - Maintain regular dental check-ups
Are tooth gems safe?
Yes, when applied professionally. Incorrect application or non-dental materials may lead to enamel damage, sensitivity, or increased risk of decay. Rare allergic reactions may occur—please disclose any known allergies before treatment.
What if my gem becomes loose or falls off?
If a gem becomes loose or falls off, contact a professional promptly. While uncommon, there is a small risk of swallowing or inhaling a loose gem.
Is private health insurance applicable?
No. Tooth gems are classified as a beauty service, and private health insurance does not apply.
